NATIONAL TEACHER CERTIFICATION FOR HIGHLY ACCOMPLISHED AND LEAD TEACHERS IS INTRODUCED
In 2011, the Australian government endorsed the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, initiating a shift towards a more consistent national approach to teacher quality. These standards defined what great teaching looks like across the country.
In 2014, the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) introduces National Teacher Certification to recognise and celebrate outstanding teachers. Since then, more than 35 Independent school teachers have achieved this certification through the AISSA.
Nationally certified teachers are highly skilled educators who undergo a rigorous process to gain recognition from their peers, leaders, and the wider community. They consistently demonstrate expertise at the Highly Accomplished and Lead career stages, focusing on improving student outcomes, sharing their knowledge with colleagues, and committing to ongoing professional growth.
